Hi, I'm a high school senior at Moorestown Friends School. I love art and medicine, so I decided to create Uplift Art Initiative to combine my two passions for my senior Capstone project. I hope to go into the medical field as a pediatrician. I currently volunteer at a local hospital in the Emergency Department, so I understand the anxiety patients have while there.
The Uplift Art Initiative is a senior Capstone project that aims to help ease the anxiety many children feel when they are patients in a hospital. These art bags can provide a way to entertain them while letting their creativity flow. Each bag will have age-appropriate materials divided into four age groups (infant-3, 4-7, 8-12, 13+). Ev

Every dollar goes to creating another bag to help another child patient.
Focus: Motor Skills
During these few years, children are learning motor skills. Most of the items in these bags help with sensory needs.
Focus: Easy Creative Tasks
Many children like to express themselves through art at this age. They enjoy drawing and using materials to bring their ideas to life.
Focus: Creative Freedoms
By this age, children are wanting to let their imagination shine. They have more advanced materials to achieve this.
Focus: Imaginative Independence
Teenagers are trying to figure out a lot of things at this point in their lives. Their bags will be free-flowing and let them do soothing art that can quell their anxiety.
Speaking with teachers and administrators in our elementary and middle school helped me gain knowledge of the current generation of kids and art's impact on them in school
Writing a paper about children's imagination, art's impact on children, neuroaesthetics, and wait times in hospitals helped me gain more insight about the impacts of my project
Helping the patients in the Emergency Department has helped me understand more about their mindset while in the hospital
Over several months, I have been researching many different aspects of my project. I wrote a literature review about a wide variety of relevant topics. These months of research have been the foundation of
my project, so click below if you would like to read more!
Your contribution will enable us to purchase supplies for the Art Bag Initiative that donates art bags to children's hospitals. We are very grateful for your generosity.
